In fact, building your own wind turbines is a lot cheaper and simpler that most people may believe possible.

Your savings are both one time and over the long term. Compared to a 300 dollar ready made wind turbine, your homemade wind generator essentially cost less than 100 dollars at best. The best part of it is that a wind turbine works hard for you even as you sleep. The moment you put your wind turbines to work, you start saving up to 80 percent of your utility bills, on a monthly basis, throughout the lifespan of the system. Not to mention the tax credits you are eligible to from the US government for green energy. The amount of savings could easily exceed a few thousands of dollars per year, every year as long as you power your home with wind energy.

First stop you need to ensure that you are able to locate your wind turbines at an unblocked area in the wind path with wind speed of at least 7 miles per hour to optimize the wind power collection process. All materials required for building your wind generators are conveniently available at your friendly neighborhood hardware store too.

While it would be a little confusing for the novice trying to set up you own wind turbine, your green journey is made much smoother with a good manual which provides specific instructions complete with pre designed system diagrams. Get the better ones with step by step videos literally walking you through each important stage, free access to member forums as well as free lifetime updates. All these for the price of less than a good meal.

So if you are truly serious about tapping on wind power check out the good guide online and you could start saving on your utility bills as soon as the weekend is over.

Wind Turbines For Electricity

Are you suffering from the growing prices of energy bills? The production of power by harnessing that strong breeze is second only to that which uses natural gas. In fact, a staggering 16,800 megawatts or more was produced via wind power, with about 30% of that capacity developed in 2007. In 2008, the total amount generated by home windmills would already amount to one percent of the United States' needs.

Currently, the large portion of this generation is due to commercial arrays of fans, although the portion supplied by smaller, individually owned home systems is increasing. This corresponds to the increasing number of people who realize that they themselves also need to take responsibility for the environment, and take steps to help reduce our dependence on oil and other fossil fuels. Oil and coal are still the biggest forms of fuel for generating electricity at different plants as well as fuelling automobiles, and they produce an alarming amount of pollution that increases as more and more energy is required.

In comparison to fossil fuel based generation, power generation of the breeze is much, much cleaner, producing no pollution once the turbines are installed. Most objections are relatively minor, such as some people's complaints that arrays of turbines spoil the visual beauty of landscapes on which they are installed. While this is true for most large-scale operations that indeed occupy large areas of land with manufactured blades, this is no problem for smaller, home wind turbines. Smaller scale setups, especially as technologies continue to develop, can be made more and more unobtrusive. In combination with solar panels, these small generators can, in fact, produce the large portion needed by an average household already.

These smaller blades are available commercially, already manufactured and ready for installation. There are generators that can be attached to your rooftop, while others may require their own tower. In many cases, the higher you can afford to mount your turbine, the better, with thirty feet being an often quoted suggestion. While the power these would generate is essentially free, the outlay at the start can be prohibitive - it would take some time before they pay off.

An alternative to commercial turbines is, of course, to build your own from available materials. While this would require a significant amount of know-how, in the end, you can really save a lot of money by building your own system. Home wind turbines can really prove to be wise money saving investments in the long run, especially if you can cut down on initial costs by building it the do-it-yourself way.

Construct the Own Turbine of the Wind For Cheap

If you can make an electricity at use of the power of a wind you be able save many money. It can be possible, simple building the wind turbine, for your house.

Now days these self-made turbines of a wind become more popular. As these self-made systems give so good of production as expensive commercial alternatives, people start to build them as the madman. All the same, is a few steps, which should be accompanied to receive the best results.

Detection, that a site imparts the device, is the most important step. The place should have round speed of a wind on 8 MILES At an O'CLOCK which usually is aside the countries or in high heights. Make point, that the selected site is not complicated by any trees, or any other structures which will reduce speed of a wind. If speed of a wind is reduced, finally electricity manufacture is made, and you cannot receive sufficient energy to put your house in action.

You should involve yourselves the guidebook or the plan which can conduct you through meeting process. The guide should have exact details about each step of installation. So, first, you should search for the detailed guide and then buy it or load it from the Internet.

There are some materials, which are necessary to construct the wind turbine - an appropriate and high tower which can support all system, batteries, to keep the made power raising for easy movement of edges, the generator and edges. When construction of the turbine of a wind, there should not be negligence in any of these steps, follow your instructions. Each step is easy, but is important at the same time.

Self-made Wind turbines - the Helpful information

Self-made turbines of a wind slowly transform the way to houses to America, Canada and Australia. The earth place in these countries is a lot of, which explains, why they receive the big popularity in these countries. In addition to everything, the fuel prices have flied up to levels which do a living wage too highly for the majority of average families. Transformation to alternatives, such as the wind power, apparently, the logic decision.

Privileges of use of the power of a wind

There is a set of privileges. First, this resource of energy does not have any limits unlike fossil fuel. It means, that 20 or 30 years later, All of you still will reach to possess it. Secondly, doing so, your family can effectively reduce or completely eliminate your accounts for an electricity. Thirdly, at use of self-made turbines of a wind, we use green energy which is completely harmless to environment.

Cost of construction of such system

The commercial version can easily cost something between 4000$ and 10000$. However, if you wish, build that on an empty place, to be prepared to spend less than 150$.

System components

Basically, there are 3 bodies namely, edges, a tower and the engine. Besides, there is certainly a periphery, such as telegraphy, a tail part, etc. Many components can be sourced from a local household shop and cemeteries of old cars easily.

Before you will start to build such device, to do notes, that it is useful, if you detailed plans and a management to conduct you forward. There are many directories, sold online on retail sites for a low payment. Compare various and choose what have tried and it is checked up by many users.

Today, many families took the initiative to make alternative energy to meet their requirements of energy. They in a condition to rely now smaller on a grid, to rescue more in accounts for an electricity and also to bring the the contribution, to protect our environment. Actually, self-made turbines of a wind can be created for use in farms and small enterprises also. Use of turbines of a wind was around within many centuries in rural areas, but now we find, that more and more people in the suburb turning to this system of economy of great power to not only, saves their money, but also also to make the income in the own right.

How it works? With such considerable quantity of accent now on carbonaceous issue and an exhaustion of fossil fuel, much more people looks at alternatives and as a result it, is much more the people, wishing to learn about this industry. Ability make your own turbines of a wind can to lead easily the blossoming domestic industry, their system for friends and neighbours. In Europe many from recently build houses, have both solar and systems of generation of a wind in them, compensating some of expenses in service accounts and also increasing value of properties directly.

But why the stop in wind generation when you can easily study to build your own solar groups. Marketing of these products will make work independently as people notice them on your roof and with very many people interested in it, you can easily start to make them in your yard of a back offering installation, and service also will increase their interest.

So, how many it will cost to you to construct the turbine of a wind and solar groups?

Could think less than you. Only for more than two hundred dollars you can have very own solar group on 80 watt, and for insignificant hundred dollars you can have completely a functional turbine of a wind. Advantages of knowledge as will construct them to feel, when you should make small service when you wish to increase number of groups, you have and also when your account of the power arrives.

In typical house management of the refrigerator the refrigerator, TV, seems system and an oven if you have all of them influencing an electricity then solar groups and generators of a wind will not do your house independent, but it will reduce your accounts and if you have gas systems for your oven and the furnace and the power effective devices, there is no reason why you cannot take a call and to see, how your account of the power can low go.

How to make home-built Wind turbine

Several years ago I have bought some remote property in Arizona. I am an astronomer and wanted, that the place practised my hobby far from the easy pollution destroying the sky found about cities of any real size. I have found the most part of the property. A problem, so is remote, that there is no electric accessible service (service). It - not really a problem. Any electricity is not equaled to any easy pollution. However, it would be good to have at least a few(a little, little bit) electricity as so it is a lot of a life in 21-st century - the dependent on it.

One thing which I have noticed at once about my property - that the majority of time, the wind blows. Almost from the moment of one (instant) I have bought it, I had idea to lift the wind turbines and to do(make) a few(a little, little bit) electricity, and more later addition some solar groups, it is a history of how I have made it. Not with the road bought by a warehouse by the turbine, and with home - constructed which cost(stand) hardly that - нибудь. If you have some skills of manufacturing and some electronic know-how, you can build that also.

Let me to declare front, that I probably shall not be capable to help you very much if you decide to build your own wind turbines. This website became madly popular, often taxing limits of a passband of the server. I receive sets of searches about the help every day. I simply have no time to answer the majority of them. Simple questions which only demand the fast and simple answer, can receive answers if time allows. However, there is no way which I can help you with challenges (releases), teach you the theory of electronics, help you to define(determine) a site of parts, to build the manager of loading (accusation) for you, or the tradition projects system for you. Only there are no enough many hours per day. It is a pity.

I started Googling for the information be relative home - constructed turbines of a wind. There are many of them there in a surprising variety of projects and complexities. All from them had five things in usual though:

1. The generator
2. Edges
3. Installation which holds it, has turned to a wind
4. The tower to awake it in a wind
5. Batteries and an electronic control system

I have reduced the project only up to five small systems. If it is attacked on one, the project did not seem too awfully difficult. I have decided to begin from the generator. My dialogue research has shown, that many people built their own generators. It seemed little bit too complex(difficult), at least for the first effort. Others used a superfluous constant magnet engines of the DIRECT CURRENT as generators in their projects. It reminded more simple way to go. So I started to study, what engines were the best for job.

Many people seemed, like to use old computer engines of the engine of a tape (film) (superfluous relics since days, when computers had the big swaying (fluctuation) to be shaken engines of a tape (a film)). The best is obvious - some models of the engine made Ametek. The best engine made Ametek - the engine of the DIRECT CURRENT on 99 вт which works big as the generator. Unfortunately, they are almost impossible to define(determine) a site these days. There are much others Ametek engines around though. Some their other models do(make) decent generators and can be still found on places is similar Ebay. This website speaks about merits and demerits various Ametek engines when is used as generators.

http://www.tlgwindpower.com/ametek.htm

To eat probably many other stamps and models of a constant magnet with engines of the DIRECT CURRENT accessible which will work well as generators. A constant magnet engines of the DIRECT CURRENT work as generators, but they have not been developed (intended) to be generators. So they - not the big generators. Some types of the engine it is much worse than others. When it is used as generators, engines in general need to be forced much faster than their rated speed to make that - about their rated voltage. So, that you search - for the engine which is appreciated for a high pressure(voltage) of the DIRECT CURRENT, low revolutions in one minute and a high stream. Keep far from a low pressure(voltage) and-or high engines of a revolution in one minute. You want the engine which will make more than 12 вт in rather low revolution for one minute, and a useful level of a stream. So the engine, nominal for speaks 325 revolutions in one minute in 30 вт when is used as the generator, it could be expected to make 12 + вт for the some people reasonably low revolution in one minute. On the other hand, the engine, nominal in 7200 revolutions in one minute in 24 вт it will not be probable to make 12 + вт as the generator while it not прядет is a lot of thousand revolution one minute which is too fast for the wind turbines. So shop for engines accordingly.

I have managed to win one of good 30 wt Ametek engines away Ebay only for 26 $. They do not go that cheap these days. People find application to the fact, that they do(make) the big generators of a wind. Other stamps will work, so do not make irritation about price Ameteks goes for. Shop wisely. Anyhow, the engine which I have received, was in the good form and processed big. Even only fast turn (giving) mine(shaft) with my fingers has illuminated grantings (would light) a vessel (bulb) on 12 вт rather brightly. I have given this real test chucking which it in my training presses also connection of it to a fictitious cargo. It works big as the generator, making easily a pair of Hundred watt with this installation. I knew then, that if I could do(make) a decent set of edges that a message (to carry) it, it would make set of authority (power).

So Edges and the center to connect them with were the following order (order) of business. More than dialogue research has followed. Many people have made their own edges, cutting out them of wood. It reminded shocking volume of job to me. I have found, that other people did(made) edges, reducing section of the POLYVINYLCHLORIDE pipe and forming them in wings. It looked much more promising to me. This website speaks you how to do(make) a set of edges for the small wind turbines, using the POLYVINYLCHLORIDE pipe.

http://www.yourgreendream.com/diy_pvc_blades.php

I followed their general(common) recipe. I have made things a little in another way though. I used black ABS a pipe as (since) my local warehouse (shop) homecenter only, happened, предсокращал lengths of it. I used a 6-inch pipe instead of 4 inches and 24 inches in length instead of 195/8. I started quartering a part of 24 inches in length of a pipe around of its(her) circle and reduction of it longitudinal in four parts. Then I switched off one edge, and used it as a pattern to switch off others. It has left me with 4 edges

I then have made small additional smoothing and forming use of my belt(zone) Сандер and a palm (palm) Сандер on the verge of decrease(reduction) (piece) to try to do(make) them in the best wings. I do not know, whether it is really the most part of improvement, but it, appear, did not damage(injure), and a sight of edges really good (if I really speak so independently).

Now I required the center to a latch of an edge to and to be peculiar to the engine. Rummaging around in my symposium (shop), I have found a pulley having teeth which correspond(meet) on motor mine(shaft), but was little bit too small in diameter to a latch of an edge on. I also have found a disk of waste products of Aluminium in 5 inches in diameter and ј inch thick, that I could a latch of an edge on, but I shall not be свойствен to motor mine(shaft). The simple decision certainly was to a latch these two parts together to do(make) the center.

Much drilling, tapping and bolting later, I had a hub.

Here it is collected and with the enclosed edges (after drilling raising apertures in them certainly).

Here is another view of the hub with blades attached.

In trip in homecenter store(keep) for some POLYVINYLCHLORIDE knickknack or another for other project, I have found their dome uniform capital letters of the gate.

I immediately thought of addition прядильщика (спиннингиста) to the center. Anything to itself, with it on there, it really reminds professionally made unit. I would be never capable to convince any, that I built it directly from барахла from my symposium (shop) and parts of metalwork. All of them would look at me when I have said, that I built it directly and to go " Yes, the right. " Then I have found a website which asserted(approved), that such прядильщики (спиннингисты) destroy (interrupt) a stream of air and damage(injure) efficiency of edges. I am not confident, that I believe a reasoning behind of the requirement (application(statement)), but I left прядильщика (спиннингиста), at least originally.

Then I required installation for the turbine. Holding it is idle time, I have decided to connect only the engine to a part 2 X 4 wood. The correct length of wood has been calculated by very scientific method to choose a part of waste products appearing in the best way 2 X 4 from mine груды wood of waste products, and to go with however for a long time it was. I also reduced a part of the POLYVINYLCHLORIDE pipe of 4 inches in diameter to do(make) a board, to be run through the engine and to protect it from weather. For a tail to hold it has turned to a wind, I again only used a part of a heavy sheet Aluminium, I, have happened, had imposing around. I worried, what is it will not be enough the big tail, but it, apparently, works only perfect. The turbine suffices directly around in a wind each time when it changes (replaces) a management(manual) (direction). For those from you always the requirement of me to provide plans, projects, circuit decisions, etc., for my projects, I have added some measurements to a picture. I doubt, that any of these sizes (measurements) is critical though.

Here is another view of the completed head of the unit with the motor and tail attached.

Then I should start to think of some kind of a tower and some kind of the attitude(relation) (behaviour) which will allow a head to turn to a wind freely. I spent (spent) a lot of time in my local warehouses (shops) homecenter (Lowes and the Domestic Warehouse) brainstorming. At last, I have thought up the decision which, apparently, works well. At brainstorming, I have noticed, that an iron pipe of 1 inch in diameter - good suitable a miss (form) internal 11/4 steel of diameter of inch TRAINING of FOREIGN MILITARY TRAINEES IN the USA the electric pipeline. I could use a long part 11/4 pipelines of inch as my tower and 1-inch joints of a pipe from both ends. For main unit I was свойствен, the 1-inch iron crest of a floor has concentrated 71/2 inches back from the end of the generator 2X4, and has screwed an iron dummy of a pipe of 10 inches in length in it. The dummy would slide in top of a part of the pipeline which I shall use as a tower and to form the good relation (behaviour). Wires from the generator would pass through an aperture which is drilled in 2X4 downwards with the center of unit of the pipe / pipeline and an output(exit) in a basis of a tower. A brilliant! (if I really speak so independently)

For a basis of a tower, I started, reducing a disk of 2 foots in diameter from plywood. I have made U, formed assembly of 1-inch joints of a pipe. In the middle of that assembly I placed 11/4 Target of inch. The target is free to turn a 1-inch pipe and forms a core which allows me to lift and lower a tower. I then have added a close dummy, 11/4 to 1 adaptation of reduction, and a 12-inch dummy. Later I have added a 1-inch Target between the converter of the data and a 12-inch dummy so there will be a place for wires to leave from a pipe. It show in a photo further downwards page. I also drilled apertures in a wooden disk later to allow me to use steel shares (rate), to grasp (to lock) it in a place on the basis (ground).

This photo shows a head and a basis together. You can start to see, how it will go together. Imagine a part of 10 foots in length of the steel pipeline connecting these two parts. As (since) I built this thing in Florida, but was going to to use it in Arizona, I have decided to keep at purchase of a 10-foot part of the pipeline while I have not reached to Arizona. It meant, that the wind turbine will never be going to completely and to not receive appropriate test while I was not ready to lift it in area (field). It was a little terrible, because I shall not know, whether the thing actually while I did not try it in Arizona worked.

Finished main unit with edgesThis photo shows the finished head unit with the blades attached. Is that a thing of beauty or what? It almost looks like I know what I'm doing.
I never received chance properly to check up unit before heading to Arizona. One windy day though, I really took the main external party(side) and counted it highly in air above my head in a wind only to see, whether there will be edges прясть it just as I hoped. Прядите it, they have made. Within several seconds it пряло till really terrible speed (any cargo on the generator), and I kept on the giant, spinning, whirligig death, without idea how to suppress it, not receiving me directly split into smithereens. Fortunately, I really finally am skilful to turn it from a wind and to slow down it to nonlethal speed. I shall not do(make) that mistake again.

Now, when I had all mechanical parts which understand, it has come time turn by the electronic end of the project. The system of authority (power) of a wind will consist of the turbine of the wind, one or more batteries to store(keep) the authority (power) made by the turbine, the diode of blocking to prevent authority (power) from the batteries spent all for nothing, прядя the engine / generator, a secondary cargo to fall down authority (power) from the turbine in when batteries completely order (charge), and the manager of loading (accusation) to operate all.

There are many managers for solar and systems of authority (power) of a wind. Everywhere it sells, the alternative material of energy will have them. There are also always many of them for sale on. I have decided to try to build my own though. So it has returned to Googling for the information concerning the wind turbine, accuse managers. I have found a lot of information, including some full circuit decisions which was rather good, and have made construction of my own very easy unit. I based my unit on the circuit decision of that, found on this website:

http://www.fieldlines.com/story/2004/9/20/0406/27488

That website enters into a plenty of a detail about the manager, so I only am going to speak about it in rather general(common) terms (terms, conditions) here. Again, while I followed their general(common) recipe, I really did(made) some things in another way. Being vigorous electronics tinkerer from early age, I have a huge stock (action(share)) of electronic components already near at hand, so I should buy a little to finish the manager. I replaced with various components some parts and altered кругооборот a little only so I could use parts which I had already near at hand. In that way I should not buy almost anything to build the manager. A unique part which I should buy, was the relay.

Whether you build your own, or buy one, you will require some kind of the manager for your wind turbine. The general(common) head behind of the manager - that, what is it supervises a pressure(voltage) of the battery (й) in your system and or sends authority (power) from the turbine in the battery to recharge them, or dumps authority (power) from the turbine in a secondary cargo if batteries completely order (charge) (to prevent search of the excessive price and destruction of batteries). The circuit decision and the review on the above mentioned web page (fabric) do(make) good job of an explanation of it.

It - a picture of the manager which I built. Click on it to see the big picture. I only have escaped all to a part of plywood to check up the purposes. Finally I shall establish(fix) it in the investment protected from a bad weather.

The small board of a perfect in lower center with ИС and other bats (particles) on it is actual кругооборот the manager. The silver bracket below it holds two buttons, which allow me manually to a button unit meanwhile to charge batteries and a dumping of authority (power) to a secondary cargo. Big, black plums of a heat on below left has two, 40 Electroguitars (Амперов), blocking diodes have escaped in it. I only use that right now, but I could add easily the second wind turbine or even photogalvanic solar group to system, using the second. A double number(line) of gold rectangulars across top - the fictitious cargo, made resistors of high power consumption. It has signals in intervals on 2 ohms. I use it as a secondary cargo to fall down authority (power) from the turbine in when the battery completely order (charge). I also use it to check up the purposes to load test the turbine. Finally the additional authority (power) from the turbine will be fallen down (thrown out) to something more useful similarly to a water heater or the second bank of the battery. Below and to the left of a fictitious cargo - the main fuse for the wind turbine. A small grey cube - 40 Electroguitars (Амперов) SPDT the automobile relay (a unique part which I should buy) which sends authority (power) of the turbine or to batteries or a fictitious cargo. On the correct party(side) - the limiting block which allows me to connect all together.

In operation, the wind turbine is connected to the manager. Lines, then controlled from the manager on the battery. All cargoes are taken (undertaken) directly from the battery. If decrease(reductions) (drop) of a pressure(voltage) of the battery are lower 11.9 вт, the manager switches authority (power) of the turbine charging the battery. If the pressure(voltage) of the battery raises to 14 вт, switches of the manager to a dumping of authority (power) of the turbine in a fictitious cargo. Is trimpots to adjust (to adapt) levels of a pressure(voltage) in which buttons of the manager back and forth between two states. I have chosen 11.9V for item(point) (point) of unloading and 14V for completely charged item (point), based on advice(council) from a plenty of various websites on a subject of properly to charge conducting(leading) acid batteries. Sites (sites) all various pressure(voltage) recommended little bit. I sort from average them and have thought up my numbers (number(room)). When the pressure(voltage) of the battery - between 11.9V and 14V, system can be switched or between charging or a dumping. The pair buttons allows me to switch between the states at any time to check up the purposes. Usually the system runs automatically. When charging the battery, yellow CONDUCTED it is covered it (is lit). When the battery order (charge), and the authority (power) is dumped to, the fictitious cargo, green CONDUCTED is covered (lit). It gives me some minimal feedback that continues system. I also use my multimeter to measure both a pressure(voltage) of the battery, and a pressure(voltage) of production (release) of the turbine. I probably finally shall add either group meters, or a pressure(voltage) of automobile style and I shall load there will be from obligations meters to system. I shall make it as soon as I have it in some kind of an investment.

I used my variable power supplies of a bench of a pressure(voltage) to model the battery in the various states of loading (accusation) and unloading, to check up and adjust the manager. I could establish a pressure(voltage) of power supplies to 11.9V and establish trimpot for low item(point) (point) of trip of a pressure(voltage). Then I could turn a pressure(voltage) up to 14V and establish trimpot for a high pressure(voltage) trimpot. I should receive it a set before I have taken it in area (field) because I shall not have any way to adjust it there.

Upgrade: I now use 14.8V for full item(point) (point) of loading (accusation) after further research appropriate charging conducting - acid batteries. I also have switched to the sealed conducting - acid batteries because I have received a sheaf their free from my brother. I examine(consider) to switch to batteries of a deep cycle when what I have now, start to suffer(bear) failure.

Upgrade: I have learned(have found out) a firm (difficult) way which it is important with this manager, intend to connect the battery all over again, then connect the wind turbine and-or solar groups. If you connect the wind turbine all over again, the wild fluctuation of a pressure(voltage) arriving from the turbine will not be smoothed with a cargo of the battery, the manager will randomly behave, the relay will click far wildly, and thorns of a pressure(voltage) could destroy ИС. So always incorporate to the battery (ями) all over again, then connect the wind turbine. Also, make sure, that you separate the wind turbine all over again at a capture of system separately. Separate last battery (и).

Update: At last, very popular requirement (demand), I have the circuit decision of my manager of loading (accusation). Click on it for the full circuit decision of the size. It only changes a little from that at the above mentioned communication(connection). I replaced with several parts which I had near at hand for in the initial (original) project. In that way I only should buy some things to build the manager. You could make the same. Is not critical precisely to duplicate this project. I used the various chip op-электрогитары (op-ampere) and various MOSFET than the initial (original) project. The majority of values of the resistor is not critical. If you have knowledge to make so, do not hesitate to take a place. Also, do not hesitate to experiment. I would be interested in reception of news from any who feels, that they have changed to the best the project in any way.

At last, all parts of the project were full. It is all it has been made only for a week before my vacation arrived. It reduced it close. I dismantled the turbine and have carefully packed parts and tools, I should collect it for their trip on all country. Then I once again I superseded to my remote property in Arizona within a week of a relaxation outside of a grid, but on this time with hopes concerning presence of a small amount of an actual electricity on a site (site).

The first order (order) of business adjusted (established) and surrounded a tower. After achievement of my property and unloading of my van, I have reached to the closest Domestic Warehouse (approximately 60 miles one way) and have bought a part of 10 foots in length 11/4 pipelines of inch which I required for a tower. As soon as I had it, the assembly went quickly. I used a cord of nylon to anchor a pole (Pole) to four big wooden shares (rates) which operate in the basis (ground). Талрепы on lower ends of each line of the guy have allowed mine vertical a tower. Issuing a line from any share (rate) according to a core in a basis, I could lift and lower a tower easily. Finally the line of nylon and wooden shares (rate) will be replaced with steel shares (rates) and steel cables. To check, though, this arrangement worked perfect.

This photo shows closeup, how to a line of the guy свойствены about top of a tower. I used brackets of a fence of communication (connection) of a circuit as items (points) (points) of communication (connection) (tie) for my lines of the guy. Brackets of a fence rather do not clamp downwards strongly on the pipeline which is smaller in diameter than posts of a fence with which they are usually used. So there is a steel clip of a fire engine from both ends of a stack of brackets to hold them in a place.

This photo shows a basis of a tower, staked to the basis (ground), and with a wire from the wind turbine passing from the Target towers of the pipeline are lower. I used an old orange cord of expansion (prolongation) with the broken (broken) plug to incorporate between the turbine and the manager. I simply disconnected (have cut off) both ends put on a shovel, drags. Пронизывание wires through a tower, appeared, was easy. It was cold morning, and the cord was very severe. I was capable to put forward only (to push) it in length of a tower of the pipeline. In warmer day I probably should use fishtape or a line of a chain (string) to pull a cord through the pipeline. I became successful.

This photo shows a head of the turbine established at top of a tower. I have greased with fat a pipe on the basis of a head and moved it to top of the pipeline. It has made the big attitude(relation) (behaviour), also, as I planned. Sometimes I even поражаю me.

It was not too bad, anybody around to receive Iwo Jima the Flag, lifting a picture such as that I lifted a tower with a head did not establish.

Now I only wait for a wind to blow. You would not be to know it, it was dead calmness in that morning. It was the first quiet day which I ever saw there. The wind always blew each other time when I was there. Well, anything to make, but to wait.

At last! The wind was, and the turbine spinning. Winds were actually unusually light all time, I was on my property on this time. The wind turbine has still made good quantities(amounts) of authority (power) though, even with winds, that at the best has made it only to a few more than to 20 miles at one o'clock from time to time.

This photo shows the manager, the battery and connected electronics all sewed up. I have 120V the inverter connected to the battery and a multimeter to hold a trace (rate) of a pressure(voltage) of the battery and a pressure(voltage) of production (release) of the wind turbine. Also my electric razor and зарядное the device of the battery are switched on in the inverter and escaping 120V AC. Later I included a long cord of expansion (prolongation) in the inverter and stretched it back to my camping. I know, that this installation is really dirty, but I hurried to rise and the manager, to exploit a wind as soon as it began to blow. It - my justification, and I adhere to it.

This photo is a closeup of the electronics. The meter shows that the wind turbine is producing 13.32 Volts. My electric shaver and battery charger are providing loads on the system through the AC inverter.

Here the meter shows the turbine making 13.49 вт. The pressure(voltage) from the turbine raises only a little as increases in speed of a wind as soon as it has a cargo to authority (power). As soon as the wind starts to blow, шнапс heads of the turbine around in it and begins прясть. It прядет is fast, while the pressure(voltage) of production (release) does not exceed a pressure(voltage) of the battery plus reduction (drop) of the diode of blocking (approximately 13.2 вт, depending on the state (a status) loading (accusation) battery). It really runs without a cargo up to that item(point) (point). Once, that the pressure(voltage) is exceeded, the turbine suddenly has a cargo as it starts to dump authority (power) in the battery. Once under a cargo, revolutions in one minute only increase as increase in speed of a wind a little. It is more than the means of a wind more current in the battery that means more cargo on the generator. So the system is substantially the self-manager. I did not see any attributes (signatures) over-reving. Certainly in winds of storm force, all rates are switched off. Switching of the manager to fall down authority (power) in a fictitious cargo has made good job of braking of the turbine and delay of it a way downwards even in stronger impulses. Actually shorting production (release) of the turbine - still the best brake. It brings the turbine to a stop right now, even in strong winds. Shorting production (release)-, how I have made the safe of the turbine to lift and go down so I would not be cut and played bones прядущими edges. Warning though, the whole main assembly can shake still around and crack you difficultly on a small mug if the wind changes (replaces) a management(manual) (direction) while, you influence these things. So be cautious there.

Finally I have decided, that my installation was too dirty and dangerous. Having highly the current connections to the electric system and a jack of a rat of wires on the Aluminium table (table) were not smart (strong). Danger fascinating short кругооборота was too high, so I cleaned(removed) things. I established all electronics on a part of plywood at top of a plastic garbage can of storage and cleaned(removed) telegraphy. Then I operated a long cord of expansion (prolongation) from the inverter back to my camping and included all my material in it there.

Here is a longer view of the complete setup.

As a sweet it! I have an electricity! Here to me have adjusted (have established) mine ноутбук and has switched on the authority (power) provided with the inverter which in turn is switched on by the wind turbine. I usually only have approximately two hours of service life of the accumulator on mine ноутбуке. So I do not reach to use it very much while I break camp. It enters convenient though to unload photos from my chamber when its(her) card with memory becomes full, doing(making) notes concerning projects is similar to this, influencing on the following big American novel, or only observing DVD cinema. Now I have no any problems of service life of the accumulator, at least while impacts of a wind. Besides ноутбука, I can recharge now also all my other battery, have switched on the equipment is similar to my cellular telephone, my chamber, my electric razor, my pump of an air mattress, etc. The life was in the habit to return to a reality primitive on the previous trips breaking camp when batteries in all my electronic material reduced.

So, how much has made all this cost to build? Well, I saved (have rescued) all receipts (reception) on everything, that I have bought connected with this project.

Part

Origin

Cost

Motor/Generator

$26.00

Misc. pipe fittings

Homecenter Store

$41.49

Pipe for blades

Homecenter Store

$12.84

Misc hardware

Homecenter Store

$8.00

Conduit

Homecenter Store

$19.95

Wood & Aluminum

Scrap Pile

$0.00

Power Cable

Old extension cord

$0.00

Rope & Turnbuckles

Homecenter Store

$18.47

Electronic Parts

Already on hand

$0.00

Relay

Auto Parts Store

$13.87

Battery

Borrowed from my UPS

$0.00

Inverter

Already on hand

$0.00

Paint

Already on hand

$0.00

Total

$140.62

Not too bad. I doubt, that I could buy commercially made turbine with comparable production (release) of authority (power), plus commercially made manager of loading (accusation), plus commercially made tower for less than $750-$ 1000.

The future updatings and increases by which I would like to do(make) to system, include:

* To establish electronics in the investment protected from a bad weather.
* To add meters, to supervise a pressure(voltage) of the battery and to charge / release(exempt) from obligations a stream.
* To add a tachometer so I know how it is fast прядет.
* To add it is more than batteries to increase spare ability (capacity) of storage.
* To add the second wind turbine or solar groups, to increase manufacture of authority (power).
* To receive higher inverter of Power consumption.
* Some method automatically to turn off or brake unit in strong winds.
* Concrete fund (basis) for a tower.
* Higher tower with steel shares (rates) and steel wires of the guy.

The majority of these updatings will not be made, while I do not live on a site (site) constantly, or полупостоянно. One updating I am going to influence end for the following some months before my following trip there - the investment protected from a bad weather and addition of meters is probable.

As the project develops in the future, I shall declare (I shall send by mail) upgrades here.

UPGRADE 03/19/07

This website became very popular. Thanks all for your interest (percent(interest)) and support. I receive tons of questions of email from people about all authority (power) of a wind of kinds connected (and not so connected) problems (releases). Many - the same there are some questions, has asked many times. Unfortunately I simply have no time to answer them all. I really try to read them everything, but my busy schedule simply does not allow enough of time to respond the majority of them. So do not take it personally if you do not receive the answer. I instead of it shall declare (I shall send by mail) answers to most usually set questions here as time allows.

Question *1: How you prevent a cable of authority (power) decrease(reduction) an internal part of a tower from leading up through any time?

The answer: It - much more (certainly) most set question which I receive from people. The short answer - I do not do(make) anything to prevent it. The cable really does not lead up all this awfully. The wind is so declined прясть a head of the turbine around of one way, as it - another. So there is no real tendency for a cable to finish awfully. If it repairs a wind through any time, it not any big business simply to separate wires in the basis and manually to untwist it. I have idea for rather easy to build ring a miss (form) system which would prevent any opportunity of a leading up cable. Now, though, there is a small need(requirement) actually to try to carry out it. Probably I shall test it on the future turbine.

Question *2: you can help to project / build to me system of authority (power) of a wind which will be authority (power) my whole a home / farm so I can leave from under the big finger of my malicious electric service company?

The answer: the short answer - no. Not only because of restrictions of time but also and consequently that my system is not developed it (is not intended) to make enough electricity to authority (power) the full house or a farm. My system only has been developed (intended) to provide tops on Some hundreds watt in area where any other electric variants were not accessible. I influence the project and construction of other turbines of a wind and even solar groups to increase my manufacture of authority (power) outside of the current minimum level. However, even if successful, these new additions would be still not authority (power) the typical house or a farm. My final purpose will be to have sufficient authority (power) from a wind and solar sources to authority (power) a small cabin and an observatory on my remote property which only will be borrowed(occupied) sometimes and will not have the big need(requirement) for an electricity. If you require the greater system, you require whom - that with experience with the big systems to help you.

Question *3: What do you influence now?

The answer: As time allows, I alter the manager of loading (accusation). It is going to to be established in the case protected from a bad weather with a pressure(voltage) of automobile style and the meters of an electroguitar (ampere) established by it. I have all parts, in which I need, but time to influence it lacks. I also influence the new project for a head of the turbine, which automatically appears from a wind, if becomes too strong to prevent damage (damage) of excess of speed. I also began job from construction of solar group of cheaply got solar seconds of a cell and usually accessible materials of construction. Once there is any promotion (progress) on that project, I shall declare (I shall send by mail) it to a website, but it is probable in his(its) own section, instead of here on page of the wind turbine.

UPGRADE 05/17/07

Me adjusting (establishing(installing)) the wind turbine - a photo of that I adjusted (established) the wind turbine on my remote property during our trip of May 2007 to Arizona. I have left the majority of the equipment, local in Arizona. I only have brought to a head of the turbine and the manager of loading (accusation) of a house with me. All has sustained winter well. Only some small surface rusts on parts of a basis of a tower. All has come back together quickly and processed big.

Mine popup a trailer to adjust (to establish) in Arizona, I used the wind turbine to authority (power) my new popup a trailer on my spring vacation. Strong spring winds held the wind turbine, прядущую all the day long every day and the majority of nights also while I was in Arizona. The turbine has provided sufficient authority (power) for an interior 12V, illumination and is enough 120V AC at outputs(exits) of authority (power) to hold mine зарядное the device of the battery, the electric razor, and a mini-vacuum cleaner (the camping dirtly) all charges also management (run). My girlfriend complained about it not having sufficient authority (power) to operate its(her) dryer of impact though.

The meter showing 14.5 вт Here my meter вт shows the turbine making 14.5 вт in a rigid wind. Though the wind turbine has switched on popup fairly well, I think, that there is a room (place) for improvement. I included popup with 120 вт AC through my inverter. popup has his(its) own 120V AC to 12V power supplies of the DIRECT CURRENT to switch on illumination of an interior and another 12V accessories(belongings). The losses involved in transformation of authority (power) to 120V AC and then back to 12V the DIRECT CURRENT have probably hardly brought in the contribution to the battery reducing fairly quickly some times during the periods of a breeze. Switching 12V systems directly from the battery probably would work better. The unique bottom party(side) which I see - that the pressure(voltage) of the DIRECT CURRENT will not be adjusted and could swing a little вт or downwards with changes (replacements) in speed of a wind. It would not disturb the majority of kinds of illumination too much. Other devices could have a problem with it though.

The wind turbine, it is far This photo shows the turbine, прядущую it is far and turning authority (power). I had no time to stop restored of the manager of loading (accusation) of the investment protected from a bad weather. So on this time I only placed all electronics in a plastic garbage can to protect them from elements. A good thing also as (since) there was a rain some times while we were there on this time. The jug of oil (oil(butter)) of a lamp is at top of a garbage can to interfere with a wind to break a cover.

UPGRADE 01/3/08

I have finished my solar group first home - constructed. It will be used in addition to the wind turbine to make more authority (power) on my remote ground Arizonskoj.

UPGRADE 05/20/08

The new and improved manager of loading (accusation) I has stopped restored of the manager of loading (accusation). It is now in полузащищенном from a bad weather an investment, and I have added constructed in meter of a pressure(voltage). I also have added some new features. Unit now has conditions for inputs(entrances) (contributions) of authority (power) from repeated sources. It also has built - in alloyed (connected) 12V distribution of authority (power) for three external cargoes.

The entrance party(side) of the manager of loading (accusation) This photo shows inputs(entrances) (contributions) to the manager of loading (accusation). It has conditions for 3 inputs(entrances) (contributions). One for my wind turbine and two solar groups though I only have one solar group full at this time.

The party(side) of production (release) of the manager of loading (accusation) This photo shows production (releases) from the manager of loading (accusation). There are communications(connections) to bank (ам) batteries, a fictitious cargo, and three has incorporated external 12V cargoes.

Sight in the manager of loading (accusation) This photo shows an internal part of the manager of loading (accusation). I basically only have passed (have moved) everything, that I have originally escaped on board of plywood in a pre-production model in this box. I have added the automobile covered gauge of a pressure(voltage) and fuses for 3 external 12V cargoes. I used a heavy wire of the gauge to try to reduce losses, due to cable (to connect) resistance. Each watt expects, when you live outside of a grid.

The block diagram of full system It - the circuit decision for the new manager of loading (accusation). It substantially the same as the old is higher, if not addition of meter Вт and additional blocks of the fuse for external cargoes. Click on it for the greater version.

The block diagram of full system It - the block diagram of the whole system of authority (power). Click on it for the greater version. Pay attention, that to me only built one solar group right now. I only had no time to finish the second.

UPGRADE 01/02/09

The wind turbine and the solar group working together Once again I remained my remote property during my recent vacation in Arizona. On this time I had also my home - constructed the wind turbine and my home - constructed solar group with me. Working together, they have provided set of authority (power) for mine (on the general(common) recognition minimal) needs(requirements) of an electricity.

Mine home - constructed solar group Here - a close up of solar group. The review of how I built it, can be found, here, that I should move it, some times every day to hold it have specified the sun, but it - not really big difficulty. Probably sometime I shall build system of procaking automatically to hold aimed on the sun.

The new manager of loading (accusation) in operation Here - a photo of new unit of the manager of loading (accusation). Wires on the left party(side) arrive from the wind turbine and solar group. Wires on the correct party(side) go to bank of the battery and a fictitious cargo. I reduced old heavy-duty 100 foots. A cord of expansion (prolongation) to do(make) кабели to connect the wind turbine and solar group to the manager of loading (accusation). A cable on the wind turbine approximately 75 foots in length, and a cable to solar group approximately 25 foots in length. The bank of the battery which I now use, will consist of 11 sealed conducting(leading) acids 12V batteries 8 Hour electroguitar (ampere) of the ability (capacity) connected in parallel. It gives me 88 Hours of an electroguitar of ability (capacity) of storage which is set for a camping. While it is solar and windy, (almost every day солнечно, and windy on my property), the wind turbine and solar group hold batteries, well which charge.

The turbine of the wind, broken (broken) after a wind storms Disaster! I have come in city to collect some stocks (deliveries). While I have left, the storm of a wind has approached. Winds well over 50 MILES AT one O'CLOCK blew through my area. When I have come back, I have found the turbine in this condition (status). Two edges have snatched out, and third has been cracked, but be still applied(put). Edges have broken, where the raising bill has met (has executed) a body (body) of an edge. I knew, what is it was a weak stain (place) and always expected, that they will break there finally. I would not know for certain if it was excess of speed, or only weariness from repeated bending which has forced them to break. I suspect weariness though. I could see, that edges have bent in strong winds before they have broken. It is interesting, though, I have found, that bank of the battery completely ordered (charged). The wind turbine, should be, has made some serious authority (power) in those strong winds before it suffered(bore) failure.

I knew, that I could awake the wind turbine and the manager again if I could drill only new apertures of installation in edges. I had no any training or битов (particles) of training with me though. I should think of it some time before I found out how to make it. Then, spirit MacGyver has arrived atop of me, and I knew, only how to make it.

Heating of a screw-driver on charcoal shoots, I found out it if I have heated up my greatest Phillips a screw-driver on fire (fire), it would thaw an aperture in POLYVINYLCHLORIDE edges only the correct size for raising latches. So I have received some movement of charcoal and started to do(make) apertures. It - awful abusing completely good screw-driver, but it was the extreme situation eventually.

Thawing new apertures in edges I used one of the broken (broken) raising bills as a pattern to define(determine) a site, where to do(make) apertures in the bases of edges. Then was direct to thaw only through edges with a screw-driver. It was very fast and easy, and apertures were very pure(clean).

The broken (Broken) bills of steel распорными details to reinstall edges, I then have reinstalled edges on the center of the turbine. I used the broken (broken) raising bills as распорные details under edges to interfere with them to pollute chapters(heads) of latches which fasten the center. tabless edges are much stronger and it is less probable to bend in strong winds. I should make it this way to the beginning. Alive also study.

The restored wind turbine Here - the turbine all repeatedly collected and ready to come back on a tower.

Restored lead up the turbine and the manager, again - the wind turbine and flight again. Loss of two inches of length of an edge, apparently, adversely does not influence job (performance) of the turbine. All this still works big. Not poorly for импровизированной jobs of repair.

How to select wind turbines. What's critical

At any time we have bought service (service) or the goods, we are a consumer. Some from us, consumers search for the most high quality product irrespective of the price while others pay a few(a little, little bit) attention to the low price, usual purchases, but tend to dig deeply on what - нибудь perceived(recognized) as the big charge. Irrespective of the fact which the buyer you, we are sure, that the wind turbines will be entered in a category which will force at least some research to take place.

The turbine it will be rather probable the most considered component in your system of a wind turbine and there is a serious basis for this purpose. Something is similar to gasoline - a product with measurable quantity(amount). We place gallon of it in our vehicle, and it will be terminated by promotion of it approximate number (number(room)) of miles. Results are predicted and very reliable. You can buy it from set of sites and receive similar results, over and over again.

The wind turbines, being machine (mechanism), is very excellent(different) from something such as gasoline or a cardboard of milk. It also is very distinct from other machines (mechanisms) which we use daily. One example with which we are familiar - the automobile. The automobile - the complex(difficult) machine (mechanism) also is subordinated to refusal (failure). Some refusals (failures) - the main problem (release) such as the invalid engine. Others can take place, which is not done(made) with the motionless automobile, such as a window which is invalid, but they - still refusal (failure). Also, distinction between the bad engine and the attached window can define(determine), whether the automobile will be capable to reach(achieve) his(its) mission. It transports you from one place up to another. The automobile can be subordinated to many insignificant (younger) refusals (failures) such as the broken (broken) holder of a cup or invalid radio and still to reach(achieve) the purpose for which it is developed (is intended). Some machine problems can even take place in modern automobiles, and " добранный home " the way dies to allow the automobile to go some more miles.

The turbine at all has no ability to transfer even insignificant (younger) making refusal (failure) and still to work. For this reason, reliability - a problem (release) number(room) one. We shall use once again the automobile as an example. Typically with the automobile you would not buy the following model downwards that you really want and in also payment more for this purpose. It, apparently, was not good movement (step). Again the wind turbine differs. Why you would pay so much or more for model " 1 KB " on other machine (mechanism) " 3 KB " companies? It is less than manufacture for a lot of money? Reliability. Whether as far as good is the superficial turbine of " 3 KB " if it burns or each time when the big case of a wind takes place flies separately?

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://windturbinespower.blogspot.com/2009/02/how-to-select-wind-turbines-whats.html' title='How to select wind turbines. A little bit more adventurous and not nearly as expensive, you could build your own residential wind turbine. It's amazing when you do a little bit of research and find out a lot of people are doing just that!

There are many resources available to guide you through the process step by step. One such resource is titled: Poor Man's Guide to Wind Power and Battery Systems. The gentleman who wrote the book is Richard Lewis and he doesn't just want to teach you how to make your own turbine ... he wants to teach you how to do it on the cheap! He promises to show you how to make a 1,000 watt wind turbine for less than $150.00 and a 3,000 watt wind turbine for about $220.00! That also includes the instructions and cost of building the tower.

I haven't read the book or gone through the process of building one of his turbines, but he claims you can make the three blades required for free in about an hour. He also provides tips on how to find a free forklift battery and recondition it for your power supply. He gives tips on what kind of generator you need and how to get the best prices.

Another resource available is Off Grid Living Homemade Wind Generator Plans. The author's name is Andrew Oke and he claims that other plans he's seen are just too complicated. He promises easy to use instructions that will show you exactly how to build a 1,000 watt turbine for less than $100.00.

I'm not what you would call a do-it-yourselfer, so I wouldn't even attempt a project like this. For those of you who like to get your hands dirty however, building your own wind turbine might be worth looking into.

Windmill Blades - And From What They Are Made

Decades ago if you drove by a field and happened to see a windmill spinning in the wind, chances are the blades were made of wood. With new inventions and better technology today, wood is still used as material for turbine blades. The design is different however. And a lighter wood material is used, in order to carve the blade and faster speed rotation.
By knowing and understanding the different types of blades, and how they improve or decrease the effectiveness of a wind turbine, you can purchase this alternate energy source with confidence. Knowing it will meet your needs.

The most recent blade design is made of fiber-glass and epoxy resin. Although this blade is in its first stages and not yet marketed, what makes it unique is its curvature like tip. This allows it to catch low wind speeds and would be considered a good design for a wind turbine used in the Midwest.

Some turbine blades have actually been made with the raw material made for PVC piping. In strong lengthy winds they have been found to break, but inexpensive to replace.

Researchers have done experiments with several different materials for turbine blades. Weight, wind resistance, durability, speed rotation, sound output, and of course cost are evaluated. Glass has never been used in experiments although plexi-glass was tested. It failed due to not being able to withstand long periods of wind, and the sound output was ineffective.

Many materials have been tested poly foam and aluminum, to name a few more and their performance again was different. They were also found less effective. The turbine blade made of carbon fiber is light weight, and has a razor sharp edge which allows it to literally cut through the wind and makes it virtually silent. This is the material preferred and used in most wind turbine machines sold today.

Another factor evaluated was how many blades would be placed on a turbine windmill. Three blades almost instantly became the most popular. More blades seemed to increase noise and slow down the actual rotation of the turbine's propeller formation. After more research was done the concept of using more than three blades was no longer a factor.

The bigger commercialized wind turbines were more effective in putting out the expected wattage than one with six blades. This was proof that three blades were better. These turbines are as big as two football fields or more in size.

The smaller wind turbines for home use also remained with the propeller style and three blades as a result of its performance, producing the correct type of wattage expected. Carbon fiber blades in the right formation were the inventive solution for the vertical windmill and the wind turbines of today. The wind turbine blades as a whole are simply part of their design, an important part to the quality of performance of the entire wind turbine machine.

How To Make Solar Panels

Learning how to make solar panels was something that we decided to do as soon as we investigated the price of new solar panels. It would literally cost us thousands of dollars to buy enough solar panels to run our off grid home. There had to be a better way to equip our home with solar panels we figured.

Most everything that you can buy from someone you can probably make yourself- why not learn how to make solar panels.

It turned out that it wasn't as difficult as we thought it might be. Solar panels are manufactured in high tech facilities with very expensive equipment but most of that technology goes into the making of the individual cells that make up the solar panels.

If we could find a source of small solar cells that were already manufactured at a reasonable price and perhaps some decent instructions we could definitely make our own solar panels.

What did we need?

· Guide book on how to make solar panels

· Inexpensive solar cells

· 1 sheet of plywood

· Copper wire

· Sheets of glass

We first located a book on the subject so that all of the fine details could be accomplished. It cost us under $20, but the very first solar panels that we made more than paid for it. We figured we saved nearly $400 just on the first solar panel we made.

The guide book contained mostly information on how to install solar panels (which was very helpful too) but along with that was detailed instructions on how to make our own solar panels.

There were pictures and step by step instructions which really helped a lot. We located a source of inexpensive solar cells and we were off to the races.

You first start out with a sheet of plywood and arrange the cells in rows along the sheet of plywood.

You can make any reasonable size that you want, but the cells must maintain spacing that are consistent as outlined in the book. It really is not tat difficult, just a bit time consuming to set up.

The next step is to drill holes in the plywood so wires can be drawn threw and all of the cells connected together. After the wires are secured a backer board is placed over the back of the plywood to seal the wires in.

A small framing piece is placed on the outside of the plywood that is higher than the cells and in this way you can seal the cells with glass. After that step the whole affair begins to look very professional.

It looks like a commercial grade solar panel all because you followed the right steps. A little bit of trim will spruce it up nicely.

How much will you save by learning how to make solar panels? We routinely make our own 100 watt solar panels for around $150, with prices always fluctuating depending on the price of solar cells.

Commercial bought new 100 watt solar panels run in the $500 range or more so you can see you will save a lot of money.

Adding Windmill Power To Your Home

By adding a wind turbine to your home, you are providing an alternate source of energy. Creating electricity using windmill power can help you reduce what you pay for utilities. Consider being able to live where power lines just won't go, or having power during a storm. Having a wind turbine would be a real advantage for situations like these. It's good for the environment, too. Future generations may use nothing but windmills to power their homes. And it could have a great effect on the economy.

Wind energy is one of the lowest priced renewable energy technologies available today. Stand alone systems, or off-grid living has its advantages. If you choose to live or build a home in a remote area where power lines are prohibited or not available, a wind turbine can power your home. Another reason consumers purchase small wind turbines for their home is to be energy independent from the local utility companies. As a part of being independent, or just having that alternate energy source available, these machines are built sleek as well as neat looking. Most have low maintenance. Over time a small wind turbine will pay for itself, an investment well worth the price you paid for it.

Wind turbines are good for the environment simply because they rely totally on the wind. That means no air pollutants or toxic gases are released into the atmosphere.

Another one of the nice things about your wind turbine is that if it is producing more electricity than your home is actually using, most times the local utility company will purchase the extra power from you. Depending on how much power you use, and how much your turbine generates, that can be a decent amount of money. Sometimes consumers buy home wind turbines just to be able to run a generator should their power go out. This can provide quite a bit of peace of mind.

Before purchasing a system, it would be a good idea to find out about any restrictions or obstacles when it comes to installing a windmill system. For example, some places restrict the height of any structure in residential areas. There might be prohibitions on some types of structures in certain zoned areas.

Approach buying a vertical turbine system like you would in buying a car or a boat. Look over literature from more than the first company you find. Find out how long the warranty lasts on the windmill you intend to purchase. Understand the basics of a small wind system, and even take a look at combining the alternate energy with energy, and its effects. Or if it is going to be the primary source of your home, calculate the power wattage compared to the power consumption you plan on using.

Some states offer tax credits or rebates to home owners with household wind turbines, which offsets the installation or purchase price of the machine. A consumer can check with the local utility company, the utility commission, or a local energy office to find out about these incentives. Or if they are available at your location.

Companies are more than happy to help you purchase a household wind turbine system specifically designed to meet your needs.

Whether or not to add a windmill to your home is a decision only you can make. However, when weighing the advantages and disadvantages, you might find that these lists aren't the same length. It's an investment that helps the economy and you might not have as much out of pocket cash going to your nearest utility company.

Residential Wind Power

Rеsidential wind power works by having a wind turbine attached to the top of a tall tower so that it can collect kinetic energy and change it into electricity so that it may work with your homes electrical system. Wind turbines will have out put if the wind power is over 7 to 10 miles per hour if not then the power that the house needs is purchased by the utility.
If the wind turbine puts out more electricity than is needed for the houses supply, then the rest of the electricity is sold to the utility. A small wind turbine can lower you bill significantly. To determine if a small wind turbine will save you money in the long run you'll have to think about the amount of electricity that your household would be using and also how much wind speed is around your house as well.

Before buying a wind turbine you should remember that the owner of the wind turbine should have a minimum of an average of 10 miles per hour wind speed and also be paying a minimum of 10 cents per kilowatt hour for electricity. Wind turbines help the environment because they output no pollution and by using a wind turbine you are stopping the pollution that would have occurred from electricity generation by the utility company.

During a wind turbines lifetime they can prevent about 1.2 tonnes in air pollutants. You won't have to change any wiring in your house because wind turbines can fit any homes and normally they supply an 80 to 120 tower with the wind turbine.

A wind turbine's performance improves as the altitude increase however depending on the manufacturer there are several different turbines available. Depending on size and the manufacturer, wind turbines can cost anything from $ 6,000 to $22,000. Most wind turbines do not require regular maintenance and over the long term is a good investment.

Vertical Axis Wind Turbines

People have been harnessing the wind's power for centuries to pump water and perform other mechanical tasks. But it's only been in the last few decades that the expertise for converting the wind's energy into electricity has made the necessary strides to become an alternative source for energy production. Most of this technology has been applied to large scale operations and some smaller units for home use.

For the home owner interested in producing their own electricity, choices have been limited primarily to investing in a horizontal axis wind turbine (HAWT). These units can carry a hefty price including the installation of a large tower, maintenance, plus the regulation in some areas regarding tower height, noise concerns and environmental issues.

For city dwellers with no place to erect a HAWT, wind power has not been an option at all. The vertical axis wind turbine (VAWT) provides a more economical alternative for the small scale user. Some of the most recent designs have overcome the problems of early models such as their inability to self-start in light winds plus issues of noise and vibration levels. Most of the new technology works well in an urban or suburban environment where some wind turbulence is inevitable unless the turbine is sited well above any surrounding buildings.

A HAWT has to physically rotate to face into the wind every time the direction changes, requiring a large tower to place the rotors above all obstructions. The VAWT doesn't require such clearances and can keep producing power in these turbulent areas.

Most vertical axis wind turbines are very silent, emitting only a slight humming sound near the equipment. The turbines turn at a lower speed unlike the larger tower turbines where the blade tips can travel at supersonic speeds becoming a threat to bats and birds traveling thru them. For these reasons they are safe to use in population centers, public spaces, parks, wildlife parks and on buildings. Some of the more adventurous designs have the look of sculpture adding another dimension to your installation.

The VAWT systems have a larger wind speed range and are able to self start in light winds, sometimes 2-3 meters per second, and continue producing electricity at much higher wind levels than the traditional HAWT units.

If you are considering alternative energy sources to lower your utility bills or to minimize your impact on the environment, vertical axis wind turbines offer new technology that can help you achieve your goals.

Energy in the Wind

Wind power has long been a source of renewable energy, as evidenced by the many windmills of centuries past. The flow of air is used to run wind turbines, some of which can produce up to 5 megawatts of power. The most common wind turbines for renewable energy used commercially produce between 1.5 and 3 megawatts. The renewable energy that a wind turbine gives off is derived by the cube of the speed of the wind. As the speed of the wind increases the power that the turbine puts out increases almost exponentially. In places where wind is strong and nearly continual such as at high altitudes and offshore are the best places to locate wind farms.
Wind is the fastest growing source of power through any of the renewable energy resources and technologies. In the past ten years, the maximum capacity of wind power installed the world over went from a 1992 high of 2500 megawatts to a high of 40,000 in 2003 and continued to grow each year after that by another 30 percent. This shows no signs of abating. Due to wind being an intermittent energy resource most wind turbines in the European Union only produce an average of one fourth of the power they are actually capable of. Under favourable wind conditions, however, some reach 35 percent or more. In winter the EU realizes a higher load factor. What this means is that wind as a renewable energy in Europe typically has a capacity for 5 megawatts maximum per turbine but regularly produces 1.7 megawatts.

The long term potential for wind as a reliable renewable energy resource throughout the global is probably about five times what it currently produces and forty times what is currently demanded of it. Large pieces of land that are not now being used for wind turbines could easily do so, especially in high wind areas. The offshore areas, where wind is nearly twice as fast and dependable as that of inshore land masses could be increased substantially as renewable wind energy sources.

The strength of the wind near the surface of the earth varies considerably and scientists cannot assure that the earth would have continuous renewable wind energy there unless it was combined with other sources of energy or stored in some way. Some suggest that 1000 megawatts of the capacity for conventional wind gathering could be counted on to produce 333 megawatts of power that is continuous. This could change as our technology evolves, but most experts suggest using wind in the context of a renewable energy system that has an expansive capacity for reserving the energy. Examples of these would be hydro power, desalination plants, reserve loads and the mitigation of the economic impact of variability of resources.

Not only is wind power a renewable energy, but like other renewable energies it gives off no harmful greenhouse gases while being operated - no methane, no carbon dioxide. The one negative of wind power is that bats and birds get caught up in the turbines and get killed. Wind turbines should, therefore, be built where this impact would be least felt.

Wind Turbines: Small – Scale Versus Large –Scale Wind Turbines

You can run (on an average basis) twelve volt appliances within a particular structure when you install small wind turbine equipment. Equipment in your home or other smaller buildings can be used without the consumption of any alternate fuel, electrical charge etc. As a matter of fact, wind turbines are completely natural – absolutely no energy is wasted and none is gobbled up by the usual electrical resources or any other kind of fuels.

When you make an effort to conserve energy, you contribute to the effort of protecting our planet – which millions have begun to realize – is vital for our survival. We live in the clutches of an earth which we truly are destroying. Many people all over the have begun to join as virtually some kind of crusade. When you are one such person, you are definitely helping improve the overall condition of the world we live in.

Some people believe that without an elaborate system there is no way to create an effective wind turbine for his or her home – this is a great falsehood. Especially in particular parts of the country or land where wind generation is simple, people have been using wind longer than you may think. Believe it or not, there are actually places where mid – scale wind turbines are completely relied on for all power generation and distribution.

Wind turbines have been useful for the function of household electricity generation for years. Wind power is usually generated in conjunction with battery storage in remote areas such as villages and farm towns. Therefore, new wind power generations systems are only improvements on a theory already proven to work in small areas for decades.

Grid – connected wind turbines are able to function as grid – energy storage equipment. Off – grid systems may adapt to intermittent energy, power. Or perhaps they use photovoltaic or diesel systems to supplement wind turbines, either way – wind turbines are a good thing to consider for yourself if you care for environmental preservation.

Even in urban locations where it is difficult to obtain and maintain large amounts of wind power, one can nonetheless utilize smaller structures of wind turbines. Smaller systems of wind power equipment can always be used for smaller, low – powered equipment.

In addition to low – powered equipment, small wind turbines can collect and generate backup power. These wind turbines will also assist in the distribution of energy in the house or structure of this nature. Wind turbines are as small as four – hundred watt generators (for home – use, primarily) to long streams of elaborately constructed turbines to generate power for much more powerful purposes.

Small — scale wind turbines are usually about seven feet in diameter and they produce approximately 900 watts of energy. The wind turbine structures are lightweight, extremely, as a matter of fact. They weigh only about thirty – five pounds and are mounted upon a house similarly to a television radar dish.

There is actually a significant advantage to small wind turbines as opposed to large scale wind turbines. At least, in means of cost and installation, the reason for this is because of what researchers call the “square cube law.” Capturing more accurately and effectively the amount of wind it is designed to collect. In the simplest terms the design is more elementary and absolutely less costly. Scientists have to put much more consideration into the path of wind, the collection of wind, the size of the turbines and / or wind power collection for large – scale wind power farms.

Essentially, the creation of a large scale wind turbine is a proposition that would require much more funding, research and expertise. The simple, low cost installation of wind turbines for small locations such as homes, (or even smaller, remote locations) is more logical at this time.

However, large – scale wind farms are important to consider. If more and more people begin to use small – scale wind power structures there will certainly be a transformation in the amount of electricity they decide use. However, if this phenomenon became a popular one in many private homes and buildings, it may enhance the federal notions towards funding larger – scale wind farms in the long run.

Will Wind Energy Be Blown Away?

Wind energy is form of renewable energy. This 'new' source of energy is getting more popular and not without reason. In various parts in the world big wind turbine parks are placed by corporate businesses yielding big quantities of energy that can be sold as environmental friendly or 'green' energy. Wind energy is a big business. Big companies profit from renewable energy but also invest substantially in this new energy source.

As you can mention before wind energy is very environmental friendly. In the search for alternatives for fossil fuels this energy source turned out to be very lucrative. This energy source makes us less dependent on traditional fossil fuels. It is important to lessen the dependence on traditional fuels. There are many reasons why here we will inform you with the most important once. The traditional fuels are predominantly in the hands of countries in troublesome areas. Therefore you are not sure if the amount of crude oil you request will be delivered due to instability in the region. Also the price for these old fuels is increasing and the current reserves are diminishing. But most of all these old energy sources pollute our planet. But as always the beautiful story of wind energy has not only positive sides. Let's look at some of negative points as well.

In the Netherlands a windmill park is located in the north of the country. Although the local people here were in favour of the windmills they changed their minds when the mills were actually placed. The residents were complaining about a constant noise during the night that could be compared to a Boeing taking of. These complaints were not taking serious by the corporate business owners. Therefore the residents decided to research their complaints by the local university. The outcome of the research was that the residents were right and their complaints should be taken seriously. It turned out that the windmills produced more noise in the evening and night than during daytime due to a higher turbulence at night caused by very specific changes in the upper air layers. During the day there is less turbulence and the sounds that are produced by the windmills are diminished by the noise of local traffic and wind blowing through the trees. All specifics can be read in this paper: The Sound of High Winds: The Effect of Atmospheric Stability on Wind Turbine Sound and Microphone Noise by Frits van den Berg.

In Germany wind mills where placed in the North Sea. Although the location for this purpose is very good, the park doesn't seem to produce the calculated amount of energy. The windmills often don't work properly due to malfunction. Whilst the location is good and wind is blowing almost constantly the windmills often just don't work. The mills were not moving at all and therefore not producing electricity. This project turned out to be very disappointing, but the project is still running and it is believed that it will function according to plan in the future.

In the United States in Vermont the local residents were opposed by the planning of a new wind turbine park. The locals felt that the wind towers would ruin their beautiful landscape. It is a landscape that many generations have fought to preserve and the current residents our proud of. It is hard to convince people to share their landscape with large wind towers that disturb these beautiful views. The plans for building the windmills in Vermont are of the table.

Although is it a good and economical of energy, wind energy is taking some real blows. The advantages are clear and the disadvantages are becoming clear as well. When placed in a surrounding where the landscape is cherished by the people who live there, one could argue not to place them because it might ruining the beautiful landscape and spoil the beautiful views. Locals and tourist would find these turbines just plain ugly. Also it should be kept in mind that wind turbines with these sizes can produce a lot of noise during the evening and night. Beside these considerations it has shown that wind energy is not always a big success and there is more progress to be made. Technically there are some steps to be made, but a lot of people are working hard in this. Let's hope that wind energy is here to stay and we will find proper ways to utilise this form a way that we all can benefit from it.

Article Source: http://www.abcarticledirectory.com/

Alternative Energy Sources Of Solar And Wind Power

Many scientists today agree that global warming is a serious issue and that the cause of global warming is carbon dioxide released into the atmosphere when fossil fuels are burned. Politicians, too, are being swayed as they see increases in property damaged, injuries, and even deaths due to natural catastrophes which appear to have gotten worse in recent decades.

Because fossil fuels appear to be the source of worldwide atmospheric change, people have began to look to other methods of producing energy. In addition to causing atmospheric change, there's the reality that we will run out of fossil fuels. The world's economy is based on fossil fuels but they are a finite resource. Eventually we will run out of them. Fossil fuels are not a sustainable resource. Two methods of producing energy which have little impact on the environment and are sustainable are solar and wind power.

First, we'll take a look at solar power. Solar power is, of course, power derived from the energy of the sun's rays. The limitation with this energy source is the sun itself. The sun will never run out, except at night. Solar power sources have been designed to compensate for the downtime of night or cloudy days, but solar power works best in sunny climates.

Solar power is generally used in one of three ways: to generate heat, to generate electricity, and to desalinate salt water. Solar powered heating systems are usually either active or passive in design. An active solar heating system uses pumps to circulate water which has been heated by the sun. Passive solar heating systems use the nature of water to create circulation. This method relies on the fact that heat energy wants to move into areas of lesser heat.

In generating electricity, solar power is harnessed by photovoltaic cells which convert the suns energy into electricity. These cells have been widely used to power calculators for decades. In solar desalination, the power of the sun is used to evaporate water to separate it from the salt and other undesirable minerals.

Another type of clean, renewable power comes from the wind. Wind power, while growing in popularity, still accounts for barely 1% of the world's power supply. This is hard to believe considering how much the wind blows! Wind power is usually harnessed using wind turbines.

A centuries old version of harnessing wind power is the windmill. These lovely structures used the wind to grind grains and pump water. Today's wind turbines are advanced machinery employing the latest technologies.

More and more "wind farms" are sprouting up around the world. These huge arrays of wind turbines can be found on land and offshore. The biggest ones in the US are land-based farms in California, Oregon, and Washington. There are also more and more popping up the Midwest. Because of energy costs and damage done to the environment, alternative energy sources are receiving a great deal of interest. Two of the most promising are solar and wind power.

Article Source: ABC Article Directory

Lower Your Utility Bill

Are you concerned about your home energy bill? Has it increased the past years to numbers you could not even have imagined back than? Do you feel like it is time to turn this around and start paying less? Of course you do! You don't have to throw out all your appliances and devices, nor will you have to live like a night creature in the dark. What you can do is to invest in one or more home energy generation systems.

A home energy generation system can be the solution if you were eagerly searching for a way to lower those bills. Such a system provides you with the best way to get the maximum financial freedom on home energy. It will give you the opportunity to utilize alternative energy. However this will mean that you will have to invest in these systems, because they don't come cheap. But it will be worth every penny you have spent! Among all types of alternative energy that can be used, wind energy and solar energy are the most common. Let's review them briefly here.

Let's start with wind energy. Wind energy is becoming more and more popular and for good reasons. Wind energy is accessible for many households and is very abundant in many parts of the country. Thus, many household can capitalize on the use of wind as a source of home energy. On the downside wind varies vary on a daily basis. Thus, it may be blowing strong today but tomorrow can be different. And even on the breeziest places, you can never tell when will be the next strong wind blow occurs. Even though this is true is, it also a known fact that wind pattern exist. Summers will bring less wind than winter, then the winds are strong and will keep your turbine spin most of the days.

If you are really interested in wind turbines it is note worthy to make sure that the local zoning allows wind turbine. You must also ensure that there is a good source of wind on most days. A wide and open space, at least 1 acre, would be ideal for wind turbines. And, if you are paying more than $150 monthly, then it may be a good option for you. If you are living in the suburbs than the 1 acre space can be big problem. Although there are new and improved smaller wind turbines available, you would still have to get permission to install the turbine. That's were the next alternative energy source comes in.

The next source that is widely used all over the world is solar energy.

Solar panels can be placed on your roof. It can be argued if the solar panels ruin the view of the homes in the neighbourhood. It is purely a matter of taste. But it is not likely that you would not get permission to place them on your roof. The early panels used to reflect a lot of sunshine and could block vision. Just like a mirror reflecting sunlight and could be blinding the eyes. But that was long ago. Today's solar panels don't have that mirroring effect anymore and the efficiency has been improved also. When they first were produced the efficiency was around 5 %, today the efficiency has tripled to 15%.

The modern panels are lightweight, safe and most of all, easy to install. These are essential in order to place them above your roof.

Your roof is also susceptible in UV exposure. The solar panel eliminates this. Also your roof will be protected from weather.

Another benefit is that solar panels contribute in keeping your house well insulated. They provide extra covering and enable you to save as much as 30% on heating expenses.

Drilling holes in your roof is very risky. The interlocking solar panels eliminate this risk.

Solar panels come in different sizes. This means that you can buy a solar panel no matter what the size and shape of your roof is.

Solar panels are installed without requiring you to modify your roof. It will adapt instantly.

Solar panels can be used on every home with a roof. That means that you don't have to live in the country to profit from this energy source.

And you don't even need a full day of sunshine to profit from this energy source. It doesn't matter if it is cloudy or raining day, these panels work on light. The generated power will be less than on a sunshiny day, but it will generate energy.

You can use these panels for electricity and hot water. The hot water can be used for central heating and running hot water. The electricity can be used for your appliances.

Solar power and wind energy can reduce your utility bill tremendously. A combination of both would be the best solution. Although these systems are expensive it would be worth every penny. If you are really serious about alternative energy sources than don't forget the tax credits and other benefits for installing these devices.

Article Source: http://www.abcarticledirectory.com/

Alternative Energy Solutions In A Time Of Power Crisis

There's a buzz going around the world: it is very likely that there will be an energy crisis in the future. We all know energy is a big issue in the contemporary world, and we have been convinced that humanity is at a crucial crossroads in its history because we face an energy shortage. Many experts believe this problem can only be solved by the use of alternative energy solutions.

By energy, I mean the fuel that drive our cars, give us electricity and enables us to enjoy modern amenities we feel so vulnerable without. Fossil fuels have been the prime source of energy for human society since the beginning of the industrial revolution. These fossil fuels have been the muscles, which have enabled us to progress and develop to such dizzying heights. We face a problem in the 21st century because our stocks and reserves of these fossil fuels are running low; this news is worsened by the fact that these reserves cannot be renewed. Many governments and private agencies have started promoting Alternative Energy Solutions to overcome the looming energy crisis caused by the depletion of the non renewal's sources of energy that all fossil fuels - coal, all oil and natural gas - represent.

Alternative Energy Solutions include all prime movers that can use a renewable natural resource to produce energy. This may be wind, thermal energy from the earth, and wave action in the shores and solar energy from the sun. Alternative energy resources can also include new technology like fuel cells. However the primary fuel humanity has long depended on has been oil. We now know from our own projections that the oil reserves in the world are slated to be unviable by 2050. Simply put, the world is running out of gas! In addition, not to mention, time.

The utilization of other forms of energy is therefore very important. When we speak of alternative energy, it usually means the production of electricity via the use of some natural and renewable resource. What are these renewables, one may ask. Someone else may extend this line of questioning and say: Are these renewable resources as efficient as the fossil fuels? Below are some answers.

Wind energy is the word that comes to mind whenever people talk of renewable energy sources. Humans have harnessed the wind to drive machines since medieval times. In the 21st century we use wind turbines to produce electricity. As a source of power, wind is an excellent option. Wind turbines generate electricity by rotary motion that is caused by the airflow.

Some of the negatives associated with wind energy and wind turbines lie in the unpredictability of wind. For example, no wind means the turbine does not rotate and electricity is not generated. Sites are another problem; rows and rows of wind turbines are just not feasible in a city of a few million people. The most important issue however lies in cost effectiveness, most power companies are still reluctant to invest in or buy their power from companies that use wind turbines. This is changing as governments around the world have started subsidizing power generation through alternative sources like wind.

There are other possible sources of renewable energy; tidal energy uses the energy of the ocean and is an effective though rather geographically limited source of power, thermal energy from the earth taps geysers and other underground sources of heat. This is a very important source of energy in places like Iceland - it is also geographically limited in its suitability. Nuclear energy can be considered a potentially inexhaustible source of power. However, it could have many dangerous complications and most environmentalists fear its use.

New technological innovations like fuel cells are still a long way off from truly becoming substitutes to the fossil fuel powered internal combustion engines that have driven us all this far down the road. Indeed looking at all the possible sources of alternate energy and especially renewable, wind and hydroelectric projects are the only two viable long term sources, solar power is a potentially huge alternative source of energy but it has a technological handicap-we do not posses the engineering expertise to make better solar cells. Solar cells are also very costly to produce and are not cost effective - even less so than wind.

Given all the setbacks we currently are unable to overcome, it will still be some time yet before we can throw away the polluting but efficient, fossil fuel guzzling machines that we so fondly know as cars. The use of alternative energy sources is a very important area of research and demands humanity's attention.

As soon as fuel supplies run out on us, we may have to go back to that ultimate transport machine to take us places: our legs.

Article Source: http://www.abcarticledirectory.com/

Solar Energy Facts

Most power plants in the United States and all over world are using fossil fuels to operate and generate electricity. They have been used as an energy source as long as man has learned to generate power. These traditional fuel sources have been around for ages and when man started using this energy sources no one though about the consequences. Fossil fuels will eventually run out and there will be a shortage of it in near future. This shortage in will have its affect on our daily live and various industries. Today we see some of these affects already, prizes are raising and electricity is becoming more expensive. Although these fuels are more scares, the need will still be here and will not decrease in near future. To solve this shortage we will need to look for other possibilities for our energy demand.

Fortunately, alternative energy sources are growing in interest. For instance, locations with high water falls are experimenting on building a hydro-electric power plant, which turns out to be successful. Other locations with high wind speed make use of a power wind mills that can convert wind power into electricity. Also thermal and tidal powers are good alternatives.

Solar energy is also one of the energy sources that is gaining in interest. This form of energy has steadily been growing. Today it is widely used in the US and other parts of the world and the advantages are numerous. Our solar energy source, the sun, its life span is estimated to be another 4.5 billion years. It is fair to say that this energy source is almost endless.

Rate of Energy from the Sun

The sun's radiation reaches a certain unit of area in space in the region of the Earth's orbit and is estimated to be at 1,400 watts per square meter. Out of this, photovoltaic cells (also known as solar cells) can capture 19 to 56 watts per square meter (for 15% efficiency) or an equivalent of 0.45 to 1.35 kilowatt per hour (kWh) in an annual day and night average.

Therefore, if there would be more area that will be covered by several solar panels, these panels can produce slightly more energy in the form of electricity than what is currently available from oil, gas, and other sources of energy combined (assuming 8% solar cell efficiency).

Conversion of Solar Energy

There are two ways of conversion of solar energy. First is the direct solar energy which involves only one conversion into a usable form. For instance:

* Sunlight hits the solar cell, converting it into electricity.
* Sunlight hits the absorber surface of a solar thermal collector, converting into thermal energy which can be used to heat homes during cold season.

The second is the indirect solar energy which involves more than one conversion to reach a usable form. For instance:

* Plants use photosynthesis to transform solar energy to chemical energy, which can be burned later as fuel to generate electricity (also known as bio-fuel technology).

* Hydro-electric dams and wind turbines are indirectly supplied by solar energy through its interaction with the Earth's atmosphere.

Pros and Cons of Solar Energy

Just like any other types of energy resources, this energy source has its pro's and cons.

Pros:

* Pollution-free.
* Solar facilities can be run with little extra input or maintenance.
* It is abundant. As mentioned earlier, most of the inhabited areas here on Earth can be reached by sunlight.

Cons:

* Although it is abundant, some areas receive little sunlight. Thus, power that will be produced in these locations is a minimum.
* Only available during daytime, thus a need to conserve to energy for use in night time.
* Photovoltaic cell technologies generate direct current (DC) power which needs to be converted to alternating current (AC) power used in distribution grids.

Once massive development of the use of solar energy is materialized, expect that every household or industry in the world will now be powered by solar energy. It is not just a dream, it will be a dream come true.

Article Source: http://www.abcarticledirectory.com/

Micro Wind Turbines For Cities

When discussions of renewable energy are undertaken, the focus is often on large scale projects. In truth, the answer may be platforms developed for a more local application.

When renewable energy is discussed, most people picture large structures. With solar, it is a valley full of solar panels glittering in the sun. With wind power, most think of large turbines gracefully twirling in the wind as they sit in valleys or up on hills. As more money is put into renewable energy research, the research results are producing an entirely new spectrum of devices.

With wind power, one of the issues is finding optimal places for placing turbines. Monetarily, this can be problematic. The best wind locations are often located smack dab in the middle of developed areas. Even for areas that are available, the cost of setting up transmission lines for the resulting energy can be obscene. Given this catch-22 situation, many have started working outside the box on wind power platforms.

Oregon State University and AeroVironment, Inc, have come up with a unique solution for the wind power problem. Their idea is to abandon the wind farm idea completely. Instead, they are looking to applications that can be used on a per structure basis. In this case, the solution is micro wind turbines.

Micro wind turbines are essentially wind turbines on a scale of a couple of feet in height instead of thirty or forty feet. The idea is to place the turbines on the roofs of buildings to capture the wind that is often found rushing over the edge of roofs. The turbines are designed to be modular, meaning they can be added to the roof on an as needed basis. This is accomplished by using a track system similar to lighting in a home as the base for the turbines. Depending on the energy needs of the structure, one, ten or 100 turbines can be installed.

Admittedly, a row of little wind turbines may look a bit odd on your average office building. On industrial buildings and warehouses, however, the structures would make little or no difference to the appearance. Heck, they would probably be an improvement. More importantly, the turbines would represent energy independence for many of the businesses using the buildings. Unlike solar, the turbines would generate power during both the day and night, meaning power could be stored in batteries or the utility grid at night to cover high energy use periods during the day.

Micro wind turbines may or may not become part of the solution to the energy issues before us. What is clear, however, is talented people are starting to focus on the subject and come up with innovative solutions.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Richard_Chapo

Wind Turbines - How to Harvest the Wind

Wind is produced from the uneven heating of the atmosphere and irregularities in the earth’s surface. The air movement between these areas is what we refer to as wind. Just as we can use flowing water to turn turbines, we can harness the power of the wind with wind turbines to create electricity.

Wind turbines have been in use since the 1920. Their earliest use was to provide electricity in remote areas that didn’t have access to a large utility company. Today there are fewer areas that are "off the grid" but wind power can now be used to supplement traditional power sources.

Wind turbines can be used individually to provide power for a household, or they can be used in arrays to provide electricity on a large scale. These arrays of industrial sized turbines are called "wind farms" and are usually situated in areas that receive consistent strong winds. Coastal areas, hilltops, and mountain passes are common areas for wind farms.

Thanks to advances in wind turbine technology we are now able to use the wind as an affordable alternative to fossil fuel for producing power. New technologies make turbines more efficient and modern production techniques bring the cost of turbines down.

When used as a supplement for residential electricity, wind turbines are connected to the breaker box provided by the power company. The power produced is available for immediate consumption, and if the wind turbine produces more electricity than is needed the excess is fed back into the utility grid for a credit on the homeowners power bill.

For those interested in living "off the grid" wind power can be used in conjunction with other alternative energy sources such as solar power. These two methods of producing electricity complement each other, when the sun is strong, the wind may be low, and the wind may be stronger on cloudy days.

Also, since solar power is not produced at night, a wind turbine can provide the electricity at this time.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Hans_Dekker

Wind Farm Efficiency

Wind power is an incredibly clean renewable power source. To capture the energy in wind, wind farms are used. So, how about wind farm efficiency?

Wind Farm Efficiency

Wind power is the process by which wind is used to generate power or electricity. The power of the wind is actually a form of solar power – wind change and variability is caused by uneven heating of the ground by the sun. In order to fully use the power that the wind is capable of generating, many countries have set up wind farms. In a wind farm, many different wind turbines (a structure that uses a propeller-like blade to take in the wind's power) are set up in an area. With all the wind turbines working at the same time, it's thought that these farms are a great way to produce large amounts of electricity.

To determine the efficiency of wind farms, you need to know how a wind farm works. The wind turbines collect the power of the wind in two steps: the propeller blades are turned by the gusts of wind, and the propeller then turns a shaft. This turning shaft is connected to a generator. The spinning action cranks the generator, which then produces electricity. The process is exactly like hydropower, but with wind acting as the energy source instead of flowing water. Just one wind turbine set up in an area will not produce very much electricity, and is not very good for powering large areas - these small turbines are usually used to power just one farm or house or occasionally to pump water.

Wind farms, on the other hand, are more powerful because there is a large grouping of the wind turbines in one area, all working in unison to produce electricity. The energy can then be run to whole communities through existing utility grids or stored in battery-like storage cells. Wind turbines can be set up to face the wind or face away from the wind. Modern wind turbines can also turn to catch the wind as it gusts from different angles, a factor which makes them far more efficient than before. The larger the turbine's blades and the taller the turbine's height will increase the efficiency as well.

The exact efficiency of wind farms is nearly impossible to pinpoint. The problem is found in the factors that go into the analysis. The terrain, amount of wind, size of turbines and so on varies from wind farm to farm. There is no constant, which makes it difficult to nail down general efficiency ratings. In general, a single wind turbine will convert about 20 percent of the energy in wind to electricity. The most efficient production occurs between five and 20 miles an hour of wind speed. This general 20 percent efficiency rating is roughly seven to five percent more efficient than solar power, but sunlight is constant whereas wind is not.

While wind technology has not yet progressed to a point where no energy is lost while harnessing it, it is fair to say that the platform is favorable compared to other renewable sources. It may take a while for the whole world to catch on to using the power of the wind, but it's definitely fast becoming an important alternative energy source. Countries such as Germany are certainly investing a lot into the platform.

Improve Your Home With A Residential Wind Turbine

What if I said you could cut your electric bill by 50 to 90 percent? Well, you can by installing a small, residential wind turbine on your property.

Improve Your Home With A Residential Wind Turbine

When you combine the cost of fossil fuels with the pollution and climate problems they create, it can all get a bit overwhelming. It is easy to find oneself wondering where to start when dealing with these problems. Given the state of fear attitude portrayed in most media, this is hardly a surprise. Surprisingly, the answers are fairly simple if you wade through the hype.

Wind power is a renewable energy source with a lot going for it. It produces electricity by converting the inherent energy in wind through a generator in a wind turbine. It produces no pollutants of any sort and will be available to us for as long as wind exists, to wit, a very long time. Given this fact, you are probably wondering if you are supposed to build a bunch of turbines in your yard. Nope!

As a conscientious person, you can do your part for the environment while saving some serious money on your utility bill. Residential wind turbines are the answer. Often given the nickname “small wind”, these turbines are designed to work on a per home basis. Given the right conditions, a residential turbine can produce all of the electricity you need and more. In fact, the generator will be hooked up to the utility grid and you can actually sell power to the utility if you produce more than you need.

Now, the word turbine can be a bit intimidating. When I think of a turbine, I picture something large and loud. In the case of small wind, this is not the case. The machinery makes a bit of noisy, but nothing substantial. Although sizes vary, your little power producer will be roughly three to five feet wide from the tip of one propeller to the other.

The one area where residential wind power may be a problem involves height. To make electricity, your turbine needs to get 10 miles an hour of wind. This may sound like a lot, but it often is not if you go 20 or 30 feet up in the air. To this end, you can do a search for small wind information to find out the statistics for your area.

Assuming wind power makes sense for your home, you should be able to greatly reduce or outright eliminate your electricity bill.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Richard_Chapo

Wind Energy – Germany

When many people think of German, they think of a large oil based industrial nation. In truth, Germany is a leader in wind energy. Here is a guide to wind energy in Germany.

When looking at countries that use wind energy, Germany tops them all. The world's largest wind energy producing country, Germany has pioneered the use of wind to produce much of their electricity needs. While the countryside and area of Germany that can be used for wind energy production may seem small compared to the size of some other countries, such as the United States and Canada, Germany has managed to make the most of the area they have, incorporating wind farms into their rural areas as well as in off-shore locations.

With wind energy, Germany is able to produce 3.5 percent of their electricity needs for the country. While this may not seem like much, compared to other countries that only produce a fraction of a percent of their electricity with wind – Germany is definitely on the right track. The country also predicts that they will be producing more and more electricity through wind energy in the years to come. For instance, in the year 2001, Germany accounted for half of the world's production of wind turbines.

Germany is also being heralded as a forefather of the wind energy revolution, because of their plan to add 5,000 wind turbines to a wind farm located off the north coast of the country. Some of the wind turbines would be located up to 45 miles out at sea, a feat never before tried by a wind energy consuming country. The wind at sea is more powerful as well, therefore Germany sees the potential to produce even more electricity by using off-shore wind farms.

The turbines being developed for use in this sea-based wind farm are much larger than conventional wind turbines, so that they will be able to fully use the wind energy that is found in the water. Germany expanded their wind powered electricity production by 44% in the time between 2001-2002, with more and more turbines being added constantly. Germany already has about 11,000 wind turbines in use. The cost of wind electricity can be as low as $.03 per KW hour, which is less than half that of the next cheapest electricity producing energy source.

While it's first in wind energy, Germany has no plans to stop there. The country plans to continue expanding their wind farms and use of renewable energy sources, which will both benefit the environment and cost less for the consumer. Other countries in Europe are starting to take notice as well, with estimates that over 50 million consumers could be receiving wind powered electricity in the next 10 years.

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Richard_Chapo

The Wind Farm Debate

Wind power is proportional to the cube of the wind's speed, so relatively minor increases in speed result in large changes in potential output. Individual turbines vary in size and power output from a few hundred watts to two or three megawatts (as a guide, a typical domestic system would be 2.5 - 6 kilowatts, depending on the location and size of the home).

Uses range from very small turbines supplying energy for battery charging systems (e.g. on boats or in homes), to turbines grouped on wind farms supplying electricity to the grid.

In Saddleworth, near Greater Manchester, an eco-war about wind turbines is waging. United Utilities want to build seven 350 foot wind turbines.

These will generate enough power to supply the average electricity needs of 8,500 homes in the local area. This wind farm is not situated out to sea but in the picturesque hills of the Saddleworth Moors and would be visible for miles around. Government targets state that 10% of the UK's energy should be supplied by renewable resources by 2010 and developments like the Saddleworth Moor turbines would contribute towards that total. Leading environmentalists from across the country have previously convened in Saddleworth for the first ever National Forum opposing the creation of wind farms on rural beauty spots.

World renowned TV botanist, Professor David Bellamy, joined former Downing Street press secretary, Sir Bernard Ingham and hundreds of activists at the National Wind Farm Group Conference. There were a total of representatives from over 50 environmental groups from across the country attending this event. It aimed to raise awareness about the perceived dangers of wind farms and bring environmental groups closer together in their fight against the government.

The Saddleworth Moors Action Group says the turbines would have a negative impact on a unique landscape. The group also insist their campaign is not prompted by "not in my backyard" sentiments, but through a genuine desire to preserve the character of the local area.

One could argue that the government is not bothered about the environment then they are continually financing the construction of coal fired power stations in the third world and building more airports and more motorways in Britain? As tensions are mounting in Iran and Nigeria leading to increased oil prices, is now not the ideal time to exploit wind power both on land and at sea via grants to companies? With labour slipping up at the local elections in 05/06 and the Conservatives pushing the eco argument, is not in Labours interest to follow the Conservatives lead and not to pay lip service to wind farms as they currently do?

OR

Will the people that have to live near wind farms and see the things every day change their minds and believe that wind farms form a concerted effort to save the environment or just another commercial money making scheme for the companies involved?

Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Davinos_Greeno
